So my dad’s trade in the last part of his career was an engineer for a food company and for Coke, designing food safe systems for packaging and he hated bottled water. The main reason for him was that he understood the chemistry of the plastics used and the fact that the type of plastic they use in bottles (especially the cheap bulk stuff) gasses off into the water...so that you are drinking plastic. Aside from the waste, its not really as healthy as people want to think. Yes, most food safe plastics gas off to a degree but that cheap bulk stuff actually does it a lot...which is why it tastes like plastic, because it is.

At most I have bottled water and a filter for when I was in Florida and we had hurricane warnings. I also used to carry 2 liters of water in the back of my old truck in case my radiator ever died (never happened, but happened to someone else and I got to use the ancient water there).

Fighting people on the bottled water thing is exhausting. I don’t mind if you’re out and about and don’t want to drink a soda, but all these assholes buying flats of bottles to take home. Go straight to hell. Such a damn waste when we have such an amazing system for water purifying and distribution.

Yeah, that’s how it was explained to me too. Temperature has something to do with it as well. Glass is best, and you can filter your water too much.

We had a UV filtration unit at my old job, I’d drink the shit out of that and re-use a bottle all week long.

Now I’m in the ‘burbs nee-country where our water is so hard we have CITY MANDATED water softeners, and still it smells and tastes like shit.

So I’ve been back to buying bottles, and we get a couple gallon jugs every week because the shit clogs the filters in our Keurig.

We've had the 1.5-gallon Pur fridge filter for a couple years and I'd never go back to faucet filters or bottled/jugged water. My 32oz widemouth Nalgene never leave my side and the wife is the same way.
